Where can education take you: Filmmaker Jonathan auf der Heide

Filmmaker Jonathan auf der Heide attended Rosny College in 1995 and 1996 studying VET Media.  After completing two years at Rosny College, he went on to study at the Victorian College of the Arts Film and TV School.

Johnathan then went on to write, direct and edit the short film Hell’s Gates, which premiered at the Melbourne International Film Festival in 2008 – winning Best Student Film and the Best Emerging Filmmaker Award.

He then adapted that short film into the feature movie, Van Diemen’s Land with co-writer Oscar Redding and made his feature debut as a director. Both Jonathan and Oscar took on the role of Executive Producer and raised the finance for the film.

Van Diemen’s Land has since screened at numerous festivals in Australia and internationally and won a Special Mention New Visions Award in Sitges at the Catalonian International Film Festival.

Jonathan has continued to write, direct and produce outstanding work.  In 2014 he was involved in Force of Destiny as an editor and Secret River as 2nd Unit Director.  Jonathan currently works as a lecturer at the Victorian College of the Arts Film and TV School.
