St Marys District School receives Commonwealth Bank Foundation Teaching Award

Rachel Hodge from St Marys District School has been presented with a Commonwealth Bank Foundation teaching award and $10,000 to invest in the school farm program.

Rachel has recently been developing enterprise programs that link money management concepts with running the school farm. Students will grow plants, run a chicken and egg enterprise and work on horticulture, agriculture and animal husbandry programs, including the maintenance of farm infrastructure. Each enterprise aims to be financially independent and actively teaches the concepts of sustainability, budgeting and the importance of saving for growth. The Teaching Award will be used to enhance and build these existing programs, allowing more students at St Marys to benefit.
